A Cincinnati-based law firm with an office in Columbus has announced it plans to merge with a Chicago firm.
Ohio’s Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP and Chicago’s Shefsky & Froelich will merge on Jan. 2 and operate under the Taft name.
The merger gives the Taft firm a presence in Chicago, where Shefsky & Froelich has been in business for 43 years.
The Chicago firm has 70 lawyers; the Taft firm has more than 350.
Taft has seven offices: in Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton, Indianapolis, Phoenix, northern Kentucky and Cincinnati, where it was founded in 1885.
The Taft firm completed a merger with Columbus law firm Chester Willcox & Saxbe last year.
