Blue Cross subsidiary Palmetto to cut 126 jobs at Easton offices

A Blue Cross and Blue Shield subsidiary with offices in central and southern Ohio will lay off about 160 workers as a result of the loss of a contract, according to a filing with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Palmetto GBA, a subsidiary of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Carolina, will lay off 126 workers at its offices on Easton Way in Columbus and 33 in Wheelersburg in two phases, the company’s letter said.

The first phase will be on Aug. 23 and the second on Sept. 13, the letter said.

The lost contract covered Medicare recipients in California, Hawaii, Nevada and the Pacific Islands, a company spokesman said.
