Westerville: A city within a Park

From the July 2014 issue of Columbus CEO

Welcome to Westerville, and thank you for taking the time to explore the community in the pages of this special publication.

Westerville is a community known for progressive amenities, a thriving business community and excellent city services. While these are among what makes Westerville stand out in central Ohio, the city regularly receives national recognition as one of the most desirable communities in the nation. In 2013, Westerville topped the list in Movoto Real Estate’s study of “America’s Best Suburbs” after twice appearing in Money magazine’s list of America's "Best Places to Live." And Forbes rated Westerville the fifth Friendliest Town in the country. Most recently, Movoto named Westerville the seventh “Happiest Suburb in America.”

Westerville is home to more than 37,000 residents, with a daytime work population nearly double that size. A leader in job creation, Westerville is situated just 10 miles from both the state capital of Columbus and Port Columbus International Airport. With convenient access to several major highways, Westerville’s Medical Mile attracts people from all over the region with exemplary healthcare services.

In addition to the geographically desirable location, companies in Westerville benefit from carefully planned infrastructure and strong business incentives. The City of Westerville, Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce and several key community partners support initiatives so that businesses are able to thrive locally and compete globally. Businesses and their employees also have access to our nationally recognized parks and recreation system, including membership to the Westerville Community Center at the resident rate.

We’ve adopted the theme, “A City within a Park,” as residents, visitors and businesses enjoy more than 40 community parks, open spaces and recreational facilities. In addition to the state-of-the-art community center, a public art program and nearly 30 miles of paved leisure trails make it a parks system that is second to none.

An award-winning school district and active Uptown District are other distinguishing features of Westerville. In Uptown, visitors can experience an old-generation downtown with new-generation shopping, dining and entertainment. We’re proud of the charming architecture, refurbished storefronts and historic brick buildings that line State Street, a testament to continual investment and improvement in the heart of the community.

We are also proud of our city services, including excellent municipal utilities. The Westerville electric and water divisions routinely provide the most competitive and lowest rates in central Ohio paired with the most reliable, efficient service. Public safety services, including police, fire and emergency medical service, keep Westerville safe and secure with response times averaging four minutes, faster than national standards.

It’s truly a community of choice for residents, businesses and visitors. We invite you to read more and to come experience all Westerville has to offer for yourself. Learn more about Westerville online at www.westerville.org.
