Individual workers now have their own tool to check their employment eligibility before applying for a job.

Self Check is a free online service of E-Verify. Individuals enter the same information into Self Check that employers enter into E-Verify. It alsogives workers guidance on how to correct any errors they discover in their U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Social Security Administration (SSA) records.

Available in English and Spanish, Self Check is the first online E-Verify service offered directly to workers. It is a partnership between DHS and SSA.

Initially launched in March 2011 on a limited basis, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services expanded Self Check to all 50 states in 2012.
