Our deadline for nominations for 2017 Top Workplaces recognition has just been extended to Sept. 16, so there's still time to make an online nomination of your company if it employs at least 50 people. Anyone can make a nomination; HR or other executives can complete an online signup.

You don't have to be a doctor or nurse to be in the running for 2017 Healthcare Achievement Awards. The nomination period just opened for our six awards that honor healthcare providers as well as companies and organizations that are committed to improving wellness in central Ohio. Nominations will be accepted through Oct. 30. Winners and finalists will be celebrated in the March 2017 issue of Columbus CEO. We still get feedback on our great 2016 winners and finalists!

Sometimes being a top workplace while improving community wellness can be just plain fun. Witness the hijinks at Dinsmore & Shohl LLP's Columbus office, which won the Most Meals Raised Per Capita-Large Firm Category in Mid-Ohio Foodbank's law firm challenge for Operation Feed. Local Managing Partner Chuck Ticknor even agreed to be duct-taped to an office door to raise money for the cause. For its part, the foodbank's encouragement of employee feedback helped it earn Top Workplace honors in 2016.

Sometimes winning recognition draws unexpected attention. The bullseye remains on Columbus' efforts to develop and implement a scalable, replicable, innovative transportation system of the future since it beat out 71 other applicants and six other finalists in late June to win the Smart City Challenge and $50 million in federal and private grants.. A Newport, Ky.-based technology firm, Nexigen, is claiming it will get there first.
