Lots of central Ohio charities are hoping you remember them when you go online for the Columbus Foundation's 26-hour Big Give contribution marathon.

The 2017 Big Give runs from 10 a.m. Tuesday to noon Wednesday, making generosity contagious as gifts through the Columbus Foundation have the opportunity to attract matching funds from a $1.3 million bonus pool.

For the first time, the program is expanded to include community foundations serving 10 central Ohio counties: Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Hocking, Licking, Madison, Morrow, Perry, Pickaway, and Union.

Credit card fees are covered for gifts of at least $20, ensuring 100 percent of donations go to designated nonprofits chosen from 900+ listed in the Foundation’s Giving Store.    

Even better, some of the region’s most popular companies are offering reward perks for Big Give donations, including Donatos, Homage, Hot Chicken Takeover, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and White Castle.

This week’s book sale at the Columbus Metropolitan Library will also be big, beginning with pre-sale access on Thursday limited to Friends of the CML, a general sale Friday and Saturday and the final clearance Sunday afternoon.

Bus riders may be hoping COTA will be kind and not go big as it evaluates proposed fare adjustments to take effect in January. Four public meetings are set for input next week, Oct. 17 and 18 at noon and Oct. 19 and 20 at 6 p.m.

Eight central Ohio startups are each hoping AOL cofounder and Revolution CEO Steve Case will go big and be kind to them as a Rise of the Rest road trip to Columbus winds up Friday eveningDowntown at the Main Library. The eight are competing for $100,000 in startup funds.

To be kind to the environment, the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio is offering grants of $2,000 to $6,000 to help sponsors of community events keep big trash out of the Franklin County Sanitary Landfill. Events attracting 2,000 people or more can learn more in a Nov. 9 webinar and apply online by Jan. 12.
