How you spend your summer vacation could be a pretty cool story, depending on what local opportunities you seize.
Maybe you’re an aspiring songwriter just itching for that breakout gig. Submit two videos of a solo or full-band performance of your original song by Aug. 1 and snag an invitation to perform at the New Albany Classic Sept. 24. The Columbus Songwriters Association will help choose the winner from among five songwriters/bands selected to perform in an August event. Draw some inspiration from Columbus’ nationally syndicated Songs at the Center TV show or from the cause the Classic supports, the Center for Family Safety and Healing.
Tickets go on sale beginning Wednesday for this year’s Sept. 24 Classic. If you end up winning the chance to perform, your story will include sharing the lineup with another singer/songwriter: Nick Jonas.
Those 50 and older might want to use the summer to prepare to land their next career opportunity at the 23rd Senior Career Expo at the OSU Fawcett Center on Aug. 24. The expo offered by Employment for Seniors is expected to draw hundreds of mature job seekers and dozens of employers with openings. Our look at seniors in the workplace earlier this year revealed many prefer to work part-time.
