State sees sizable increase in solar jobs.
The Ohio solar industry added 1,020 jobs in 2016, representing a 21- percent increase in the state’s solar workforce, according to the seventh annual National Solar Jobs Census 2016. Now, Ohio has 5,831 solar workers, including Athens-based solar panel installer Third Sun Solar. In 2015, that number was 4,811. Ohio is ranked 11th in the nation for solar jobs.
Growth is not limited to Ohio, which is one of 44 states to see an increase in solar industry employment. In fact, since 2010, solar industry employment has almost tripled for the nation. In 2016, the solar industry grew 17 times the rate of the overall US economy.
Use of solar power is scattered throughout a wide range of job sectors, including manufacturing, project development, and sales and distribution.
